Monitoring Project Officer
National TrustOverview
National Trust’re looking for a Monitoring Project Officer to join National Trust in the Midlands and East of England (MEE) region to help deliver National Trust's programme of care and conservation of archaeological sites across the region.
The National Trust looks after 19,388 archaeological sites across its properties in the Midlands and East of England (MEE), ranging in significance from Sutton Hoo and Wroxeter Roman City to a whole series of buildings, earthworks, monuments, and landscapes that make up National Trust's unique historic environment. A successful scheme of regular condition monitoring of these archaeological assets has been developed, working with volunteers and on-site property staff, to carry out the work on the ground. This condition monitoring enables National Trust to prioritise conservation work and ensure the continued protection and preservation of the assets in National Trust's care.
What it's like to work here:
You’ll be part of the Trust’s internal consultancy: a flexible resource of specialist skills and expertise. As one of a multidisciplinary team of experts, including curators, fundraisers, building surveyors, and project managers, you’ll be working with others to help make things happen.
As this role covers the Midlands and East of England region, your contractual place of work will be the nearest National Trust consultancy office to your home. National Trust's hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. You should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40–60% of your working week.
What you'll be doing:
You will work closely with the regional archaeologists to recruit, train, and support teams of volunteers carrying out the work and liaising with on-site property teams to improve their skills and their understanding of how to care for the historic environment.
You will be working with ARCGIS online and field-maps to roll out a digital model across the region. You will manage, update, and use the Historic Buildings Sites and Monuments Record (HBSMR) to produce maps and documentation suitable for volunteer use. You will input, analyse, and prioritise data resulting from the monitoring work. You will support volunteer recruitment and communicate the value of the work National Trust do more widely within the Trust by running webinars and producing newsletters and updates.
