Applications are invited for the post of Transplant Coordinator at the Manchester Centre for Transplantation (MCT) based at Manchester Royal Infirmary. MCT is one of the largest clinical transplant programmes in Europe specialising in renal and pancreatic transplantation and Encapsulating Peritoneal Sclerosis (EPS).
This post offers the successful candidate a fantastic opportunity to join a well established team of coordinators who are responsible for facilitating all aspects of the transplantation process and supporting patients and their families through the transplant journey.
Main duties of the job

- Support the donor/recipient/EPS patient work up process in conjunction with medical staff.
- Co-ordination of the assessment process including the ordering of diagnostic tests and investigations
- Support the Transplantation laboratory to ensure that local and national databases provide accurate and timely information.
- Contribute to the development of MDT/team objectives for the service/speciality.
- Receive all recipient referrals, using expert knowledge and clinical decision making to identify and facilitate potential patients for surgery.
- Communicate sensitive and complex information to recipients, and their families, where there may be barriers to understanding and acceptance, using a high level of skills due to the emotive atmosphere.
- Work collaboratively with the other Transplant centres/living donor/recipient coordinators to enable the smooth running of the UK Living Kidney sharing scheme.
- Arrange the necessary theatre dates and teams for the transplant programme.
This role will also require you to participate in the recipient on-call role. During this you will work closely with donor and transplant teams nationwide to facilitate kidney, pancreas and Islet transplants for patients. You will be the key point of contact for the patient, the donor teams and the ward, theatre and support teams. After a period of induction you will work autonomously to organise the transplants.
