We are looking for an enthusiastic, customer focused Archive Assistant who wishes to develop a understanding of local history, people, and events relating to Leicestershire, Leicester and Rutland to join our accredited service and the dedicated team of staff and volunteers.
The successful candidate will help to provide an effective Archives and Local Studies Services through research, document retrieval and assisting the public in making full use of the resources held at the Record Office for Leicestershire Leicester and Rutland and to deal with written, telephone, and face to face enquiries relating to local history and heritage.
About You
Candidates are required to have the following:
- Develop a knowledge of the Record Office’s resources and services to assist in delivering a frontline service to customers through face to face, telephone, email and other written communication whilst ensuring a high level of customer care.
- The ability to undertake all archive assistant duties including reception, assisting visitors in the search rooms, including producing documents and other resources from the strong rooms and returning them to the correct location. Also, advising users on the materials and sources available and search records for answers to enquiries from the public.
- The ability to assist in the management of the strongrooms, including the boxing, shelving and labelling of records and books and the maintenance of an accurate location list.
- Under professional supervision assist in the listing, organising and indexing of collections or records and library resources, including the maintenance of indices.
- Fulfil online and customer orders by scanning documents or retrieving digital images and/or information from existing databases and assist in the maintenance of equipment in the searchrooms.
- Alongside all team members, take responsibility for health and safety and to comply with legislation and council policies.
