Job Overview

The successful candidate will be part of a dedicated team responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of various open areas, recreational and play spaces, council facilities, and public toilets. This role is essential for maintaining the aesthetics and functionality of community spaces.

Key Responsibilities

• Grass cutting, strimming, litter picking, and cleaning
• Property maintenance, including erecting seasonal decorations and assisting with road closures
• Ensuring all tasks are performed in accordance with Health & Safety regulations
• Conducting daily vehicle and equipment safety checks
• Assisting with general maintenance duties at the Market Stall
• Providing support to colleagues at the Guildhall and the Buttercross Museum as needed
• Responding to emergency situations as part of the Town Council’s call-out team

Shift and Schedule

• Monday to Friday
• Weekend availability may be required for civic events

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess a strong background in grounds maintenance, ideally with experience in working independently as well as part of a team. A full driving licence is required, along with a willingness to undertake training.

Essential Skills

• Knowledge of grounds maintenance methods and equipment
• Ability to follow Health and Safety policies and procedures
• Good communication skills
• Capacity to handle the physical demands of the job

Desirable Qualities

• Horticultural qualifications or experience
• Roadside working experience
• Experience in building or property maintenance
