About The Job
West Sussex County Council is seeking Minibus and Car Drivers to join West Sussex County Council's School Transport team. The primary role is to provide a reliable transport service for children and young adults, ensuring their safety and comfort during journeys.
Salary Range
£11.79 - £11.98 per hour. Casual contract holders will have annual leave included in their hourly pay.
Work Location
Your base location is Hop Oast (near Horsham); however, you will operate across multiple locations, primarily Burgess Hill and Haywards Heath.
Contract Details
This position is permanent and operates on a term time only basis, requiring 25 hours per week from Monday to Friday, specifically from 7:00-10:00 and 14:00-17:00.
A term time only contract means you will work during school open periods, with pay calculated annually and distributed in twelve equal monthly installments.
Responsibilities
As a School Minibus/Car Driver, your duties will include:
- Providing an efficient driving service to passengers.
- Following specified schedules to meet commitments.
- Driving allocated vehicles of 4-16 seats safely and professionally.
- Communicating effectively with passengers and building trusting relationships.
- Adhering to the Highway Code regulations at all times.
Required Qualifications and Skills
Key skills include:
- Safe driving practices in accordance with regulations.
- Effective communication with colleagues and passengers.
- Problem-solving abilities for straightforward issues.
Qualifications and experience required:
- Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
- Valid UK driving licence.
- Driving licence including category D1 or PCV (desirable).
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities (desirable).
- Experience with tail lifts/ramp operation and securing wheelchairs (desirable).
