Would you like to manage and motivate a team of diverse individuals with different skill sets to achieve exceptional results? Field Studies Council’re looking for you to join Field Studies Council's Environmental Education Charity as Field Studies Council's Residential Centre Manager.

  • It’s a fixed Term contract due to start in January to cover maternity leave.
  • You’ll be working full time, an average of 37.5 hours per week.

What you’ll be doing

As Field Studies Council's Centre Manager, you will have a key operational and leadership role within Field Studies Council's charity. You’ll work closely with the Head of Education and Operations to ensure the effective running of your centre, aligning activities with the Field Studies Council vision and strategy.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day operations, management, and performance of your busy residential learning location, which includes budgeting and ensuring effective systems are in place to meet customers’ expectations. Additionally, you will collaborate with Field Studies Council's Sales and Business Development teams to retain and develop new business opportunities.

Your leadership will be crucial as you guide and manage your team, providing clear direction, motivation, support, and feedback. You will also play an active role in recruiting, inducting, and developing each team member to ensure they perform to their highest potential, with a strong focus on delivering excellent customer service.

Where you’ll be based

Field Studies Council Castle Head is located in south Cumbria between Morecambe Bay and the Lake District National Park. The centre is set in 30 acres of diverse habitats including woodland, grassland, and freshwater.

With over 150 beds, 5 workrooms, a meeting room for up to 120, and a sports hall, Field Studies Council cater for various group needs and deliver a wide range of programmes in field studies and adventurous activities.

Who Field Studies Council’re looking for

You will have strong business management skills from previous work experience and be confident in delivering the operational functions of a busy learning environment. Previous experience in a similar centre environment within the leisure, hospitality, or education sectors is advantageous. Additionally, you will have:

  • Ability to communicate effectively to diverse audiences.
  • A proactive approach to personal development and a motivation to learn new skills.
  • Demonstrable time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Commitment to learning in the outdoor environment.
