Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated and responsible individual to join Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust's pharmacy team as a pharmacy assistant based in the dispensary at Ipswich hospital, becoming an integral part of Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust's 7-day service.

Your duties will include:

  • Dispensing for inpatients and outpatients.
  • Dispensing controlled drugs.
  • Liaising with patients for the home delivery of medication.
  • Following standard procedures.
  • Providing a stock top-up service on designated wards/clinical areas.

On-the-job training will be provided, and departmental competencies will also be undertaken. You should have good interpersonal skills, the ability to work calmly in a busy environment, and be flexible to change. Attention to detail and good team-working are essential.

About Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust's Pharmacy Service

As part of your role, you will:

  • Undertake study and complete NVQ Level 2 training relevant to the post.
  • Dispense medication including controlled drugs, unlicensed medicines, cytotoxic medicines, and Monitored Dosage System (MDS).
  • Attend to patients/customers and hospital staff at the reception hatches.
  • Collect prescription charges from eligible outpatients and issue tickets.
  • Issue medication to patients following procedures and referring to a pharmacist if required.
  • Record requests on a computerized tracking system for discharge prescriptions and inpatient charts.
  • Check that patients have valid exemptions and assist them in completing relevant information.
