Post CCT Fellow in Laryngology

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust invites applicants for the position of Post CCT Fellow in Laryngology. This role is primarily based at Charing Cross Hospital, with some sessions at the Royal Brompton Hospital, for a fixed period of 12 months commencing in October 2024.
Role Summary
This position is suitable for a Specialist Registrar who holds or is about to be awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent. Applicants should possess clinical skills commensurate with a year 6+ SpR, with previous experience in Laryngology Surgery being desirable. An intercollegiate examination in Otolaryngology or equivalent is essential. This Fellowship has Royal College of Surgeons approval.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosing and managing patient conditions
- Making treatment decisions
- Presenting cases at multidisciplinary meetings
- Performing surgery both under supervision and independently
- Leading the inpatient team in managing post-operative inpatients
- Coordinating operating lists
- Conducting teaching sessions for junior medical staff and nursing staff
- Engaging in research and audit with a view to publication
Educational Support
The successful candidate will receive Consultant-led education and supervision and will be supported in their professional development as a Laryngology surgeon. The post holder is expected to be fully registered with a Licence to Practise from the General Medical Council and will participate in the registrar on-call rota.
Work Schedule
The typical weekly timetable is as follows:
- Monday: Ward round/admin
- Tuesday: Theatre/Interventional Clinic
- Wednesday: CXH MDT + Clinic
- Thursday: Theatre
- Friday: Ward round/admin
Meetings and On-call Responsibilities
Regular meetings include Laryngology and Airway MDTs, weekly Upper Airway MDT at RBH, weekly departmental academic meetings, and monthly operational meetings. The role includes an on-call commitment across Imperial sites (Charing Cross, St Mary’s, and Hammersmith) as well as Chelsea and Westminster Trust and the Royal Brompton.
