Objective of Role

Richmond Council is expanding the Strategic Applications Team at Richmond and are excited to offer a position for an enthusiastic Principal Planning Officer. This role provides an excellent opportunity to broaden your experience within a unique environment as Richmond Council navigate interesting major developments on the horizon.

About the Role

The main duties of the Principal Planning Officer include:

  • Dealing with complex applications and pre-application submissions.
  • Handling screening and scoping opinion requests and appeals as required.
  • Providing senior-level support and signing off reports.
  • Assisting the Strategic Applications Manager in leading the team.

With excellent communication skills, you will take responsibility for effective negotiation and resolution to ensure outcomes align with the Council’s positive objectives and policies promoting high-quality and innovative development while conserving the historic character of the Borough.

This position is based in Richmond, with opportunities for homeworking.

Essential Qualifications, Skills and Experience

The ideal candidate will:

  • Hold an RTPI accredited planning qualification.
  • Demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in Development Management.
  • Exhibit excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Be a motivated team player capable of motivating others in a busy, high-performing team.
