Applications are invited for a fully-funded 4-year PhD studentship based in the Department of Pathology at the University of Cambridge under the supervision of Dr Michael Boemo, starting October 2025.

Research Focus

The project will explore the distinct genome replication mechanisms of malaria parasites, making them an attractive target for therapeutic development against malaria. The student will develop artificial intelligence software leveraging long-read DNA sequencing to identify genomic loci of DNA damage from antimalarial drugs.

The successful candidate will enhance their skills in artificial intelligence for translational research within a collaborative environment.

Funding and Duration

Funding will cover the student's stipend at the current Research Council rate along with University fees, provided for four years. This opportunity is available to students who qualify for UK Home fees.

Candidate Requirements

  • Applicants should hold (or expect to obtain) a UK 2.1 or higher in an undergraduate honours or Masters degree in a relevant subject.
  • The studentship is open to those eligible for Home rate of University fees.
