What it's like to work here:

Reporting to the Head Lengthsperson, you'll collaborate closely with a team of 15 weir operators. The River Wey & Godalming Navigations & Dapdune Wharf is a tranquil waterway running nearly 20 miles through Surrey. This waterway has historical significance, having been made navigable in 1653.

While the river can be demanding, it’s also rewarding. National Trust's team of weir operators ensures sufficient river depth for navigation and helps alleviate flood waters. Although you'll mainly work independently, you'll be part of a larger team performing a vital role in keeping the Navigations operational and delivering an excellent visitor experience.

What you'll be doing:

You will be responsible for maintaining navigation levels by checking river gauges and adjusting weir gates. Regular monitoring of the river is required, along with the ability to respond at short notice. This role necessitates 24-hour cover, so living within close proximity of the Navigations is essential.

This role requires regular travel around the site to remote locations that are not accessible by public transport.
