Overview

Teaching Assistant with a focus on SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) for 30 hours per week, operating from 8:45 AM to 3:15 PM during term time (39 weeks).

This is a fixed-term contract linked to EHCP funding until the funding ceases or the child leaves the Academy, commencing as soon as possible.

Role Overview

The Governors and Head Teacher are seeking to appoint a conscientious and hardworking individual to provide support for pupils with complex SEMH needs and neurodiversity. The successful applicant will:

  • Be qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 in a relevant discipline
  • Be an outstanding and reflective practitioner with high expectations for all children
  • Have strong behaviour management skills and strategies when working with children with complex needs
  • Have a sound knowledge of ASD / ADHD
  • Have experience of working with pupils with SEND
  • Be proficient in supporting the delivery of all aspects of teaching and learning
  • Be a team player who is also able to work independently
  • Challenge and motivate pupils, promoting and reinforcing self-esteem
  • Provide positive feedback in relation to progress and achievement

Responsibilities

The role encompasses the following duties:

  • Working closely and under the direction of the SENDCo/Class Teacher
  • Supporting in classrooms for children with SEND/SEMH needs and assisting teachers and other staff with appropriate strategies
  • Leading small group work with a SEMH focus
  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the SEND/SEMH bases
  • Facilitating behaviour/SEND intervention work
  • Implementing and following an EHCP, behaviour, and Risk Reduction Plan where appropriate

Requirements

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore will be subject to a DBS from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
